In multi-tenant residential buildings, mixed-use properties and large commercial facilities, requirements for access organisation, remote management and system integration continue to increase. A door station must no longer simply provide a bell function, but also manage residents, support different identification media and integrate into existing building automation.
With the D31TDV (vertical version) and D31TDH (horizontal version), DoorBird offers an IP video intercom designed for installations with up to 1000 units. The integrated 7″ touch display serves as the central operating and information module and enables structured presentation of resident directories, logos or individually configurable quick-access functions.
Architecture and material selection in the planning process
The D31x series is available in various material and finish options. Depending on the architectural concept or environmental requirements, stainless steel front panels as well as PVD-coated or powder-coated versions are available. Versions in genuine burnished brass or genuine architectural bronze are also offered.
Material selection can therefore be defined independently of the version – vertical (D31TDV) or horizontal (D31TDH) – on a project-specific basis. Both models are designed for surface or flush mounting, with the back box available separately.
Digital resident management and flexible access media
The 7″ LCD touch display manages up to 1000 entries in the name directory. Adjustments are carried out remotely via app or web browser. Resident changes or temporary permissions can therefore be implemented without on-site intervention.
In addition to the virtual keypad, an integrated RFID reader (13.56 MHz), a QR code reader and Bluetooth Low Energy are available. Access rights can be time-restricted and linked to individual actions. Up to 1000 RFID transponders can be managed.
Image quality, sensor technology and operational reliability
The integrated Sony Starvis image sensor delivers Full HD resolution at 1080p with wide dynamic range. The hemispherical ultra-wide-angle lens with 180° field of view fully covers the entrance area. Night vision is supported by infrared LEDs with automatic IR cut filter.
Audio transmission operates in full duplex with echo and noise cancellation. Video and audio calls are possible on smartphones, tablets or SIP-enabled devices.
An integrated 4D motion sensor operates using multiple sensors and radio frequency energy. Detection range, direction and triggering events are configurable. Push notifications or relay switching operations can be defined precisely.
Integration into building automation and network infrastructure
A documented local API enables integration into third-party and SIP systems. The D31x series is compatible with numerous smart home and building automation platforms such as KNX, Loxone or Control4.
Two freely configurable bistable relays allow control of doors or gates. Power supply is provided via PoE+ in accordance with IEEE 802.3at, requiring only a single network cable. Alternatively, connection can be realised using a two-wire Ethernet PoE+ converter.
Accessibility and long-term design
An integrated accessibility module supports acoustic signals, pictograms and an induction loop for compatible hearing aids. When installed correctly, relevant standards for barrier-free construction are considered.
The 7″ display is protected by hardened safety glass and can be replaced on site without specialised tools. This supports a maintenance-friendly and long-term system design.
Outlook: 5G version for reduced infrastructure
With the announced D31TDV 5G and D31TDH 5G models, DoorBird expands the series with variants featuring integrated 5G technology. This enables door communication without conventional Ethernet cabling.
Particularly in existing buildings with limited cable routes, this approach offers advantages in terms of installation effort and flexibility. Commercial launch is scheduled for 2026, with pilot projects already underway.
