Integrate Sonos into KNX with Zennio

Zennio natively integrates Sonos into KNX: control audio via Z50, Z70, Z100, RemoteBOX and the Zennio Remote App. With scenes, favourites, Playback Zones and Knowledgebase FAQ.

Sonos becomes part of the KNX project

With native Sonos integration from Zennio, audio is no longer treated as a separate system. Control is integrated directly into the Zennio user interface and becomes part of the overall building automation concept.

Zennio Z50, Z70 and Z100 touchscreens, together with RemoteBOX, allow Sonos speakers to be controlled from the same interface as the rest of the installation. For users, this means fewer app changes, a consistent interface and direct audio control within the KNX project.

Audio control directly through Zennio

The Sonos integration provides central access to the main audio functions. Play, pause, next track, previous track, volume, shuffle and repeat can be controlled from the Zennio interface.

Track title, artist, album and artwork can also be displayed on the touchscreen. Favourites and playlists can be used in the interface, provided they have already been prepared in the Sonos app. Favourites remain synchronised with the official Sonos app.

Multiroom audio in the same interface

Control is based on Playback Zones. A Playback Zone can be a single speaker, a stereo pair, a zone or a group of Sonos speakers. These zones are created in the Sonos app and can then be selected on the Zennio touchscreen.

This makes it possible to control the kitchen, living area, bedrooms or an entire home from one interface. The Zennio screen displays the available zones and links the selected zone to the relevant multimedia control.

Integration into scenes and automation

A key advantage is the KNX integration. Through instances, Zennio provides KNX objects that can control the selected Sonos Playback Zone. This allows audio to become part of scenes, switches, visualisations and automation logic.

A typical use case is a scene for living, reception or relaxation. Lighting, shading, room climate and music can be triggered together. Signal sounds, such as a doorbell or alarm sound, can also be prepared via WebServer Tools and played through Sonos.

Important planning notes

The Sonos speakers and the Zennio IP device must be on the same local network. The management of Sonos speakers, groups, zones and favourites continues to take place in the Sonos app.

The Zennio touchscreen can select Playback Zones, start favourites, control playback and volume and display track information. Creating or changing speaker groups and favourites remains part of the Sonos app workflow.

One logic across the entire project

With Sonos integration, Zennio extends KNX control with practical audio functionality. For system integrators, planners and KNX partners, this creates a clear solution: Sonos remains the audio system, while Zennio becomes the central building interface.

Audio is integrated into the smart home with the same logic, the same interface and the same automation possibilities as the other trades in the project.
